Workplace Attestation Form

APPENDIX X

Workplace Behaviour Attestation

BCWS has a zero-tolerance policy for Bullying and Harassment and behaviours that could compromise the safety or well-being of the individual and/or harm others.

“Bullying and Harassment” includes any inappropriate conduct or comment by a person towards another person that the person knew or reasonably ought to have known would cause that person to be humiliated or intimidated, but excludes any reasonable action taken by an employer or supervisor relating to the management and direction of

workers in their place of employment. Examples of conduct or comments that might constitute Bullying and Harassment include sexual harassment, verbal aggression or insults, physical intimidation, calling someone

derogatory names, hazing or initiation practices, vandalizing personal belongings, spreading malicious rumours, sabotage and competitive behaviour that interferes with safety, operations and the well-being of others. This conduct applies whether in person or in writing, including over text message, social media or email.

I acknowledge that when performing fire fighting or any other services for BC Wildfire Service (“BCWS”):

  1. I will treat every crew member, BCWS employees, members of the public and any other person attending a BCWS worksite (e.g., fire camp) with respect and dignity and must not engage in discriminatory conduct

prohibited by the Human Rights Code. The prohibited grounds are Indigenous identity, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, family status, marital status, physical disability, mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, political belief or conviction of a criminal or summary offence unrelated to the individual’s employment.

  2. I will meet acceptable social standards and contribute to a positive work environment.

  3. I have the responsibility to contribute to a safe workplace. Violence in the workplace is unacceptable.

Violence is any use of physical force on an individual that causes or could cause injury and includes an

attempt or threatened use of force.

  4. I will report any Bullying and Harassment or any threat of violence to BCWS and to my employer

immediately if there is reasonable cause to believe that the threat poses a risk of injury.

  5. I will report a safety hazard, unsafe condition or act, or workplace injury in accordance with the provisions

of the WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

  6. I will not possess, carry, use, or distribute drugs or alcohol while in a BCWS worksite. For clarity a worksite

includes but is not limited to; Fire Camps, staging areas, marshalling points, heli base, heli port, heli pads,

while travelling to and from projects or incidents, travelling from marshalling location to incidents, and

    return home once demobbed.

  7. I will arrive ‘Fit for Duty” and be free from impairment, including being under the impairment of drugs or

alcohol, regardless of where the drugs or alcohol were consumed. “Fit for Duty” means a physical, mental,

and emotional state which enables employees to perform their job tasks competently and continuously in a

manner which does not compromise the integrity of the BC Public Service or create a safety hazard to

    themselves or others.

  8. I will not post any photos anyone on social media without their permission and will conduct myself

professionally when using any form of social media platforms: including social feeds, dating apps,

discussion forums, short-form videos, livestreaming, and private communities. I will not: post on any media

platforms that reflect negatively upon BCWS or its partners while on the worksite; create or operate a social

media account around BCWS activities; speak on behalf of BCWS or its partners on media platforms; or

misrepresent the Province on any media platforms BCWS’ partners include, but are not limited to:

Indigenous Nations, local governments, communities, vendors, contractors, academic institutions, and our

provincial, national, and international counterparts, as well as many provincial agencies.
